I started by removing the veneer applied by Cold Steel on the hickory handle using a knife. The factory veneer is purely for appearance, and using the axe in that condition is what causes blisters - that's why after I removed the veneer I meticulously applied boiled linseed oil to the handle, starting with daily applications for a week, followed by weekly applications for a month. Currently, I am maintaining the handle's quality by applying it once a month for a year, and going forward, I plan to continue yearly applications.
